14 October is celebrated as World Standards Day, which is a means of acknowledging the work done by experienced experts in developing standards worldwide. Healthcare standards ensure a system of safety and quality, provision of services that meet the needs of the service user, and availability of adequate resources e.g., human, financial & physical and, monitoring and evaluation of improvement activities.

Standards world over have been used as a framework to achieve desirable goals in healthcare. Standards provide an opportunity to healthcare providers to look at their systems, policies, procedures and processes to see whether they are able to achieve something better in terms of structures, processes and outcomes.

Healthcare policy makers and professionals should adopt standards that help achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals. In this Round Table, 3 leading experts from 3 continents will discuss why and how.
