Industrial data captured effectively is a powerful tool to help industry make better decisions. The ISO technical committee dedicated to this area has just won a prestigious ISO award in recognition of its valuable work.

ISO/TC 184/SC 4, Industrial data, has published over 770 International Standards dedicated to supporting the technology that captures high-quality data throughout the life cycle of a product. Its standards help organizations use this data to enable the best use of resources, promote more efficient processes and ensure that machines and services work in the way they were intended to.

The committee is a model example of one that serves the needs of the industry in an agile, responsive and inclusive manner, focusing on effective collaboration and continuous improvement.

In receiving the ISO LDE Award, the committee was most notably recognized for its proactivity, its large volume of quality standards, the growth of the number of participants in the standardization process and taking an innovative approach to committee work.

Announcing the award winner, ISO President Eddy Njoroge commended ISO/TC 184/SC 4 for its strong leadership, inspiring delegates and experts from the sector towards consensus to develop standards that make a difference.

“ISO/TC 184/SC 4 has done an outstanding job of engaging with national and international organizations and individuals to respond to emergent issues,” he said.

“Their innovative and inclusive approach has enabled them to react to the COVID-19 pandemic in a timely manner and adapt to changing conditions effectively, such as working effectively in the remote meeting context.”

The LDE Award recognizes the superior performance of an ISO committee, including innovative and efficient processes and solutions that ensure the provision of excellent services.

ISO/TC 184/SC 4 consists of industry experts from over 30 countries along with 25 liaison organizations such as the International Association for Information and Data Quality (IAIDQ), the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) and ASM International. It was established in 1984 and its secretariat is currently held by ANSI, ISO’s member for the USA.
